Most remote postings hire within one country. The eligibility line tells you which.

On 2 November 2026, 3,147 remote IT roles were open at 240 tech companies, out of the 11,725 open IT roles at the 433 companies Tideline follows. That is 27% of all open IT roles, and 44% of the roles whose posting says whether it is remote, hybrid or on-site. Software engineering has the most remote openings by count, cybersecurity the highest share, and most postings hire within one country rather than from anywhere.

Every number here comes from the companies’ own job boards on that date, not from a job aggregator. The remote tech jobs page shows the same roles live, so use this article to understand the shape of remote hiring and that page to see what is open today.

What “remote” means in a job posting

“Remote” on a careers page covers four different things, and the posting usually tells you which if you read past the title.

  • Remote from anywhere. The employer hires in any country. Rare: 115 of the 3,147 remote IT roles say this.
  • Remote within one country. The most common form. The role is remote, but you must live, and be allowed to work, in the United States, Canada, the UK or wherever the posting names. 940 roles are United States only.
  • Remote within a region or time zone. “Remote, EMEA”, “remote across Europe” or “US time zones”. 327 roles name a country or region in Europe, 148 one in Latin America.
  • Hybrid. Two or three office days a week. Tideline counts these separately, and there are nearly as many of them: 2,779 hybrid IT roles against 3,147 remote ones.

A fifth group matters more than any of these: 1,021 remote IT postings do not say where they hire from, and 4,530 open IT roles do not say whether they are remote at all. If the eligibility line is missing, the company’s own page is the only place to find out.

Here is how all 11,725 open IT roles split:

Companies hiring remotely right now

Twenty-five companies hold 1,855 of the 3,147 remote IT roles. Each row links to the company’s own job board, which is where the role is actually posted and where you apply. “Pay posted” is how many of the company’s remote IT roles carry a pay range from the employer.

Tideline is independent and is not affiliated with any company or job platform mentioned here. Company names are used only to identify where roles are open.

Two things stand out. Remote hiring is spread across fintech, developer tools, security and AI companies rather than concentrated in one kind of employer. And the companies with the most remote roles are not the ones most open about pay: Canonical, Truelogic and Camunda post no ranges at all, while Instacart, Toast and Render post one on every role.

The other 215 companies have 1,292 remote IT roles between them, so a search by field or country will turn up employers that are not in this table.

Which IT jobs are most often remote

Bar chart of remote IT roles by field on 2 November 2026: software engineering 1,123, product and design 450, technical sales 374, cybersecurity 275, cloud and DevOps 274, data 265, AI and machine learning 232, IT support and operations 92, technical programme management 39, QA and testing 23.

Software engineering has the most remote roles because it has the most roles of any kind. The more useful column is the share: of all open roles in a field, how many are remote.

FieldRemote rolesOpen roles in the fieldRemote share
Cybersecurity27579735%
Technical sales3741,17632%
Data26587530%
Product and design4501,55129%

IT support and operations9239523%
AI and machine learning2321,06222%
Technical programme management3919021%
QA and testing2318512%

Security, sales engineering and data work travel well: the work is done in tools, not rooms. AI and machine learning is the surprise at the lower end. Those teams are hiring hard, and much of that hiring is in San Francisco, London and New York; the AI and ML hiring piece lists the cities. QA and testing is the least remote field by a wide margin.

Where you can live and still apply

Bar chart of where remote IT hires can be based on 2 November 2026: not stated 1,021, United States only 940, Europe 327, Canada only 182, United States and Canada 151, Latin America 148, anywhere 115, UK 77, other single countries or mixes 46, India only 41, the Americas 27, Asia-Pacific 23.

Counting each posting once, by the countries or regions it names:

Where remote hires can be basedRemote IT roles
Not stated1,021
United States only940
Europe (a country or region in it)327
Canada only182
United States and Canada151
Latin America (a country or region in it)148
Anywhere in the world115
UK (or UK and Ireland)77
Other single countries or mixes46
India only41
The Americas27
Asia-Pacific (a country or region in it)23

So “remote” mostly means “remote in the United States”. Add Canada only, the roles open to both the US and Canada, and the Americas as a whole, and 1,300 of the 3,147 remote IT roles (41%) need you to be in North America. Europe is the second region, counting roles open to the whole continent, to EMEA, or to one European country. The UK alone is small, though UK residents can also apply for many of the Europe-wide roles.

Tideline keeps a live page for each of the four places people ask about most. Each counts roles the employer says it can hire there, plus roles open to a wider area or to anywhere:

For the 115 roles open from anywhere, search with the “anywhere in the world” filter.

How senior the remote roles are

Remote hiring leans senior. Of the 3,147 roles, 989 are senior and 625 lead or staff level, against 103 mid-level, 32 entry-level and 46 internships. 283 are manager roles, 76 director and 17 executive. The remaining 976 do not state a level, and those are worth reading one by one, because a title without “senior” in it is often open to a wider range of experience than the ones that spell it out.

The pay employers post on remote IT jobs

Employers posted a pay range on 1,661 of the 3,147 remote IT roles (53%). These are the ranges the employers wrote on their own postings, not estimates, and they are only shown where the posting carries a currency.

Currency and periodRoles with a posted range
US dollars, per year1,265
Canadian dollars, per year190
US dollars, per month68
Euros, per year57
Pounds, per year27
US dollars, per hour12
Other or no period42

Of the 1,265 roles with a yearly US dollar range, half start at $174,986 or more, and half of the ranges reach $247,500 or more at the top. The ranges describe what these companies say they will pay for these roles; they are not a forecast for any one person or location. Many US postings give different ranges by region, and the posting itself says which applies.

How to check a remote role is current and real

Job aggregators often show roles weeks after the employer closed them, and a copy of a posting can lose the lines that matter. Three checks, all on the employer’s own page:

  1. The role is still on the company’s board. Every link in this article goes to the job board the company runs itself. If the role has gone from there, it is gone.
  2. The eligibility line. Look for “must be based in”, “eligible to work in” or a list of countries or states. If the posting says nothing, assume the employer hires in its home country until you ask.
  3. The time-zone line. “Overlap with Pacific hours” or “within three hours of CET” is a real constraint, and it is usually in the body of the posting rather than the title.

Tideline shows the eligibility countries beside each role when the employer states them, and marks when it first saw a role. Before you apply, Readback shows your resume the way the hiring software on the other side reads it.

Finding remote IT jobs on Tideline

Every role links to the employer’s page, and the live pages change as roles open and close, so their counts will differ from the figures in this article.

How this data was collected

Tideline reads the public job boards of the 433 tech companies it follows, hosted on Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, every day. It does not read job aggregators, and it does not cover every employer: companies that run their own careers software, or that use another provider, are not in these numbers. On 2 November 2026, 431 of those companies had open roles, 26,242 in all, of which 11,725 were in the ten IT fields this article counts: software engineering, cloud and DevOps, AI and machine learning, data, cybersecurity, IT support and operations, QA and testing, product and design, technical sales, and technical programme management.

A role counts as remote when the employer marks it remote on its own board. Many postings do not say whether a role is remote, hybrid or on-site: 4,530 of the 11,725 open IT roles, and 11,267 of all 26,242 open roles. Those are not counted as remote here, so the real number of remote roles is almost certainly higher than 3,147.

Data notes:

  • The headline counts only the ten IT fields. The companies also had 2,756 open remote roles in other functions (finance, legal, marketing, operations, recruiting and the like) at 271 companies, which are left out of every figure above.
  • “Where remote hires can be based” groups each posting once by the countries or regions it names. The grouping covers the 60 most common combinations, 3,098 of the 3,147 roles; the remaining 49 are rare mixes of countries.
  • 976 of the remote roles do not state a level and 1,021 do not state where they hire; both are shown as “not stated” rather than guessed.
  • The pay figures use the middle value of the posted ranges’ low ends and high ends, not an average, so a single mistyped posting cannot move them.
  • The figures describe the companies Tideline follows on 2 November 2026, not the whole job market.

Common questions

What counts as a remote IT job?
A role the employer itself marks as remote on its own job board, in one of the ten IT fields Tideline tracks: software engineering, cloud and DevOps, AI and machine learning, data, cybersecurity, IT support and operations, QA and testing, product and design, technical sales, and technical programme management. Hybrid roles and roles that don't say are not counted.
Which companies are hiring remote IT workers right now?
On 2 November 2026 the largest remote IT hirers among the companies Tideline follows were Affirm (184 remote IT roles), Canonical (173), Sezzle (154), Coinbase (115), Reddit (112), GitLab (106) and Samsara (104). The table in this article lists the top 25, each linked to the company's own job board.
Can I apply for a remote IT job from any country?
Usually not. Of the 3,147 remote IT roles, only 115 say they hire from anywhere in the world. 940 are open to people in the United States only, 182 to Canada only and 327 to a country or region in Europe. 1,021 postings mark the role remote without saying where they hire, so check the eligibility line on the employer's page before you apply.
Which IT jobs are most often remote?
By share of open roles, cybersecurity (35% remote), technical sales (32%), data (30%) and product and design (29%) lead. By count, software engineering has the most remote roles, 1,123. QA and testing roles are least often remote, at 12%.
Do remote IT jobs post a salary?
Employers posted a pay range on 1,661 of the 3,147 remote IT roles (53%). Most of those ranges are in US dollars per year (1,265 roles); the middle of their low ends is $174,986 and the middle of their high ends is $247,500. 190 are in Canadian dollars, 57 in euros and 27 in pounds.
How current are these numbers?
They were read from Tideline's data on 2 November 2026. Tideline reads the public job boards of 433 tech companies on Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby every day, so the live pages linked from this article show today's roles, while the numbers here describe that date.
