IT jobs in Sydney

Sydney has 113 open IT roles at 26 companies. More than half are software engineering (55). Technical sales follows with 15, then AI and machine learning (11), cloud and DevOps (9), product and design (8) and cybersecurity (7).

Sydney roles are mostly hybrid: 67 say so, 6 are on-site, only 5 are remote, and 35 don’t say. For these employers, a Sydney role usually means time in a Sydney office.

Leave Xero out and Melbourne has 17 roles at 10 companies, so a search there turns up a handful of roles per employer rather than a deep pool. All open IT roles in Melbourne, live.

Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Canberra and Perth

None of these cities has enough roles for a section of its own, so here are the real counts:

  • Brisbane: 11 roles at 4 companies (Xero 6, UpGuard 3, Constant Contact 1, Databricks 1).
  • Adelaide: 4 roles at 2 companies (Sony Interactive Entertainment 3, UpGuard 1).
  • Hobart: 3 roles, all at UpGuard, which posts them as remote.
  • Canberra: 2 roles, both at Xero.
  • Perth: 2 roles at 2 companies (Snowflake, VGW Holdings).

If you live outside Sydney and Melbourne, the remote roles below are the bigger opportunity.

Which IT fields are hiring in Australia

Bar chart of Australian IT roles by field on 3 November 2026: software engineering 78, technical sales 31, cloud and DevOps 19, product and design 15, AI and machine learning 12, cybersecurity 10, IT support and operations 7, data 2, QA and testing 2, technical programme management 2.

“Worldwide” is all 11,708 open IT roles at the same 433 companies on the same day. Two differences stand out. Technical sales (solutions engineers, sales engineers and solutions architects who work with customers) is a much bigger share in Australia: 31 roles at 18 companies, 9 of them at Databricks. Data roles almost disappear: of the 878 data roles at these companies worldwide, 419 list the United States and only 2 list Australia.

IT support is small too: 7 roles, most of them technical support engineers at software companies (Cloudflare, Deputy, Snowflake, and a technical services engineer at MongoDB). Help desk and service desk roles are not among them.

Twenty-five companies hold 155 of the 178 roles. Each row links to the company’s own job board or careers page, which is where the role is actually posted and where you apply.

Tideline is independent and is not affiliated with any company or job platform mentioned here. Company names are used only to identify where roles are open.

The other 23 companies have one Australian IT role each. Only 6 of the 178 postings show a pay range (5 of them in Australian dollars), so this article gives no pay figures.

Remote IT jobs open to people in Australia

33 of the 178 Australian IT roles are marked remote. SearchApi has 10 of them, Envato 5, UpGuard 4, and GitLab and Sophos 2 each. Remote IT roles that list Australia, live.

Remote roles posted from other countries add to that, if the employer says it can hire here. Across all 433 companies Tideline follows:

  • 16 remote IT roles name Australia as a country they hire from: 6 for Australia only, and 10 at SearchApi that list dozens of countries, Australia among them.
  • 28 more are open to “APAC” (Asia-Pacific) at 5 companies. That usually includes Australia, but read the posting: some APAC roles want a particular time zone or country.
  • 115 are open from anywhere in the world, at 5 companies. Search the roles open from anywhere.

The eligibility line on the employer’s own page is the one to trust. If a remote posting doesn’t name Australia or a region that includes it, assume it hires in its home country until you ask.

SEEK and company job boards

Most people looking for work in Australia know SEEK. Founded in Melbourne in 1997, it describes itself as operating market-leading online employment marketplaces in Australia.

Tideline works the other way round. It reads the job boards companies run themselves, on Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, and puts those roles in one place. That makes it a company-first complement to a job site rather than a replacement. It shows which tech companies are hiring in Australia and what is on their own boards today, but it misses employers that use other careers software or only advertise elsewhere, and companies it doesn’t follow. Tideline lists ten of the 48 companies in this article as based in Australia; most of the others are global companies with Australian offices.

Before you apply, Readback shows your resume the way the hiring software on the other side reads it.

Finding IT jobs in Australia on Tideline

Every role links to the employer’s page. The search changes as roles open and close, so its counts will differ from the figures here. For remote work beyond Australia, Remote IT Jobs: Companies Hiring Remotely Right Now maps where remote hires can be based, and IT Support Jobs: Which Companies Are Hiring Now covers support roles worldwide.

How this data was collected

Tideline reads the public job boards of the 433 tech companies it follows, hosted on Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, every day. It does not read job sites or aggregators, and it does not cover every employer. On 3 November 2026, 429 of those companies had open roles, 26,279 in all, of which 11,708 were in the ten IT fields this article counts: software engineering, cloud and DevOps, AI and machine learning, data, cybersecurity, IT support and operations, QA and testing, product and design, technical sales, and technical programme management.

A role counts as Australian when any place it lists is in Australia.

Data notes:

  • The headline counts only the ten IT fields. The same companies also had 223 roles in other functions (sales, marketing, finance, operations and the like) at 66 companies listing a place in Australia, which are left out of every figure above.
  • City counts overlap, because a role can list several cities.
  • 61 of the 178 roles do not state a level. Of the rest, 56 are senior, 32 lead or staff, 16 manager, 6 mid-level, 4 director, 2 executive and 1 entry level.
  • “Work setting” is what the posting says: 54 of the 178 roles don’t say whether they are remote, hybrid or on-site.
  • The figures describe the companies Tideline follows on 3 November 2026, not the whole Australian job market.
